Meet Big Hal: Big Hal is estimated to be about a 10 year old (as of January 2026) rat terrier mix (best guess) that weighs 17 pounds. Big Hal was taken in by animal control in Memphis and later acquired by Charlie's Crusaders. Big Hal is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Big Hal didn't initially take to the facilities that the shelter had to offer and was a bit grumpy during his initial stay there. However, once one of the employees there took him into her office, he grew more satisfied with the accommodations and relaxed and became a well behaved little dog. When we got him, Big Hal was walking out on a leash with no problems and was quite content to be petted by strangers. He probably wouldn't do too well in a house where he was crated much of the time. Big Hal gets along with other dogs and shows no response to cats. He's not a playful puppy anymore, but he moves around the house and yard as robustly as anyone. Big Hal is house trained. We would love for Big Hal to have a home with a fenced in yard so he can play freely, but it is not a requirement. Big Hal is up to date on his shots and neutered. If you are interested in adding this older man into your life, please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application.
