My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BABY LOP ALERT!

We have 7 baby lops who are almost 6 weeks old. The most recent pics are included as well as some of their photo shoot from a couple weeks ago. They are growing fast!

Parents, Beatrice and Max came into the rescue when they were together, unfixed. You may remember that we posted their first litter but they sadly didn't make it past a week because Beatrice had not had proper nutrition prior to coming into the rescue. Well, Max was a silly boy, and managed to jump in with her the day she gave birth, so we have a second litter. Don't worry, they are both fixed now! This is why we stress that it's so important to get young bunnies gendered by a vet! We hear from so many people that they have multiple litters because the mom can get pregnant just 30 minutes after giving birth!

Anyway... these adorable seven babies are with a great foster, Erin in New Smyrna. They will be 8 weeks on February 1st and available for adoption then.

There's no reason to support breeders who drive overpopulation. There are always lops and babies to find in rescues.

Please note:

Baby bunnies are messy and go through a hormonal phase where they can be destructive and spray starting around 3 months old until they can be fixed at 6 months. Their adopters should be prepared for this. We have plenty of bunnies who are already fixed and litter trained if you'd rather avoid that.

Baby bunnies are also extremely fragile and can easily break their backs or a leg and therefore are not a good fit for young kids.

We require indoor homes with a minimum of a 4x4 space (puppy pen, not a hutch). The adoption fee will cover the spay/neuter at 6 months old.

-----------------

The adoption fee helps to offset the spay/neuter cost. It's important to do to prevent cancer and improve litterbox habits. Our vets provide a very discounted rate so this is a great deal! Our buns also receive a wellness check and parasite test.

First time rabbit adopter? We can send you information about housing and care. You should also know:

- Bonding bunnies - both buns must be fixed or there will be territory issues and aggression. Read more on the House Rabbit Society website. Or contact us about low cost spay/neuter.

- Bunnies are NOT starter pets. They need (indoor) space and attention like a small dog would. They need hay, pellets and greens daily. And any health issues (not eating, etc.) require immediate attention.

- Bunnies are NOT a good fit for young kids. They are fragile, startle easily, usually don't like to be handled, and do not do well under stress like the general household noise that comes with little ones. Trust us, it's a lot of work you don't want to take on if you're caring for small kids. If your little one absolutely wants to meet a bunny, we can set up a visit with one of our more mellow bunnies and there's no commitment involved :)

- Bunnies can be somewhat skittish but they are also fun. If patient and understand that bunnies get comfortable with people on their own terms, you'll make a bunny friend. Spending time on the floor with them and offering treats is a great way to bond with them.

- Bunnies MUST be housed indoors. RHDV-2, a highly contagious and fatal wild rabbit disease in now in Florida and transmitted in the ground. Domestic rabbits cannot tolerate the heat. They also need to be safe from predators and parasites like ear mites. They will be much happier being a part of the family, inside.

More about this rescue

Our rescue started in 2019 when an out of control breeding situation required help. We helped a homeowner get 100+ bunnies fixed and into homes. The need is so great in our county that we kept rescuing.

We adopt to indoor homes because:
- your bunny should be a part of your family! They will be happy, safe.
- Florida temperatures are too extreme for domestic rabbits.
- a hutch is not enough! Buns need space for exercise, social interaction, protection from the elements, mites, fleas, predators, and diseases.
