Rowan is in peak form right now — happy, confident, playful, and a total hambone. He's reached that sweet spot where everything is clicking, his personality is shining, and he's more than ready to step into a foster or forever home of his own.
Rowan is a fun-loving Chow who lives life with enthusiasm. He adores toys (especially anything with fluff to pull), keeps a watchful eye on squirrels, and has the cutest habit of ducking under your legs to rub his head and back — especially when he's feeling excited or a little unsure. It's his version of checking in and asking for reassurance.
He enjoys other dogs and loves to play, but he plays like a Chow — enthusiastic and sometimes mouthy. Because of that, Rowan will do best with dog-savvy humans and canine companions who are tolerant of playful tail- and ear-grabbing. He's still polishing his social skills, and continued training will help him channel all that joy in the best ways.
Rowan is looking for a home with Chow experience, a fenced yard where he can roam and explore, and a calm, capable household without young children, cats, or folks who might be unsteady during energetic play. Give him space, structure, and guidance — and you'll be rewarded with a goofy, affectionate, deeply entertaining companion who keeps life anything but boring.
**Rowan is being fostered in Spring, TX. Paid transport can be arranged. Transport costs range from $200-400.**

Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. We are an entirely volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with no administrative costs.
Our rescue traces its origin back several years to the work of Dianne Watson. Dianne dedicated much of her young life to saving homeless Chows in North and West Texas. In her memory, Houston Chow Chow Connection continues her passion of uniting Chow Chows with perfect forever families.
HCCC began rescuing in 2013 and re-homed over 400 dogs since inception, including over 125 in 2017! Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled north and south! As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. As you may know, rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments.
At HCCC we don’t pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, Chows with physical issues, or disabilities. Some of our incoming babies have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. New HCCC dogs may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues.
