My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh... Hello. I'm Affogato. You might not see me right away. I'm the small, all-black cat tucked neatly into a cubby, where it's quiet and safe and nothing moves too fast. I like my space cozy and my world calm. From here, I can watch everything without being in the middle of it. I'm shy, but not unfriendly. If you sit nearby-really sit, not rush-I'll notice. I'll listen to your breathing. I'll decide you're okay. And if you stay just a little longer, you'll meet the sweet part of me. Gentle pets, soft voices, and patience bring out my purrs and my trust. I don't leap into affection. I let it bloom slowly. But when it does, it's warm and comforting, like something special meant just for you.
My name is Affogato because I'm quiet and subtle at first-but with time and kindness, I become something rich and sweet.
Thank you for sitting with me. I'm glad you're here.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1955, Woods Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which receives no tax funds, but is supported by donations, grants, bequests, fundraising events and fees for services. Woods is independent of San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, but works in close cooperation with them and other animal groups in the county for the welfare of all animals.

Woods now cares for over 3,000 cats and dogs each year at our facilities in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero until they can be united with loving forever families. We bring in animals from other shelters where they are less likely to be adopted and from individuals who are no longer able to care for their pets. Woods is committed to finding loving homes for all healthy and treatable pets, no matter how long it takes. With our behavior and veterinary resources, we are able to go the extra mile for animals in need.
