My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the sweet and social dove, Mamma! Mamma is known to be a very friendly bird who will allow calm pets and loves a large water dish in her enclosure so she can relax by giving herself a nice bath!

Doves should not be adopted to live alone - Doves are very social birds who thrive in the company of their friends!

Adoption fee for one dove is $10, each additional adopted at the same time has a discounted adoption fee of $5.

As most of our small animals are in fostercare, if you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about this pet, the best way to start the process is to call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us at springfield@dakinhumane.org. If you already have a cage, please send a picture of your cage when you inquire.

Doves can live between 10-20 years.
Have you ever heard a morning dove cooing first thing in the morning? Isn’t that a pretty sound? How would you like to wake up to that sound every day, even in the winter! If you answered yes, then a gentle pet dove could be the perfect for you.
Doves need safe out-of-cage time every day to exercise and socialize with you. We would prefer to live in groups of two or more to keep us happy and healthy.
Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
1-2 Doves: 32“W x 21”D x 24” H ; larger required for more than 3.
Doves are birds that fly horizontally - they cannot take advantage of the space in tall, narrow cages. Their cages should have a lot of room going side to side so they can easily fly side to side in the cage.
Doves spend a lot of time standing and walking and need a solid floor in their cage so they can walk on it. If your cage has bars on the floor, it can be covered up with several layers of paper to create a floor for them. They also like solid platforms for perching, as well as traditional bird perches.

Doves are a social species, meaning they usually enjoy the company of their own kind. If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.

Got a single at home you’re looking for a friend for? Any animal listed alone on our website is a single and a great candidate; if there is a group of 3 or more, usually one can be taken out of that group as a companion for your single.
- A Doves are relatively easy to introduce to one another, as long as there is sufficient space
