Meet Big Pokey, a delightful 12-pound adult dog whose personality is as big as his heart. He`s sweet, friendly, and curious, always ready to explore with a gentle demeanor although his eagerness causes him to lead the way on a leash as he marches along. We don`t know yet if he is house trained so please be patient if he needs more guidance. Despite his shy nature, Big Pokey loves cuddling on laps, giving kisses, and making friends with other dogs. We haven`t seen him interact with children yet. He`s the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loyal friend to share in life`s quiet moments and gentle adventures. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.
CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
