Gabbana is a gentle, sensitive sweetheart who is just beginning to discover how nice it feels to be loved. She came to THS with very little life experience, but wow—has she been trying her best. With a little time and patience, she’s already shown beautiful progress, going from hiding to bravely approaching staff for attention. Every small step is a big win for this girl!
Gabbana does best in a calm, predictable environment where she can move at her own pace. Once she feels safe, her soft, affectionate side starts to peek out, and she truly shines. She’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply and blossoms with kind words, gentle handling, and positive reinforcement.
Having a friendly, confident dog around seems to help boost her confidence, and she may enjoy a canine companion after a slow introduction. She may also be able to live with cats with patience and gradual introductions. A quieter home with adults or older, dog-savvy teens—where everyone meets her ahead of time—will help set her up for success.
If you’re someone who finds joy in helping a shy pup grow into her confidence, Gabbana will reward you with trust, loyalty, and a very special bond.

More about this shelter
The Toledo Area Humane Society was founded on February 14, 1884. As one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety. TAHS is a private, non-profit organization and receives no funding from the United Way, the government, or national humane organizations. Donations from local individuals, corporations and generated by our fundraisers are the sole source of funding. Programs like Forever Friends, for people who include TAHS in their wills, and the Golden Paw League, for people who give gifts of $250 or more, have been established to give people donation options and to recognize their generosity. Volunteers help supplement the staff assisting with tasks both inside and outside of our facility. Volunteers provide enrichment for animals such as walking dogs or socializing cats. The Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs are dependent on our volunteers. Foster care volunteers provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals too young for adoption and for sick or injured animals. It is our goal to help every animal at-risk for abandonment or cruelty, and to find a home for every adoptable animal. The Humane Society is the only animal welfare group in this community who will give refuge to any animal at-risk for abuse or neglect, regardless of its type, health, age or whether we have space.
