My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Willow! Willow was found running loose on a county road not far from our facility just an hour or so after the owner came in to surrender her.

The owner was advised by staff that our facility is for reuniting lost dogs with their owners and for animal cruelty cases only, so they would need to surrender her to the humane society as they handle the owner surrenders in Marion County.

Rather than go through the proper channels with surrendering their dog to MAHS, they chose to dump her around the corner.

Willow’s owner was located and charges of Failure to Confine and Abandoning Animals have been filed.

Willow is now available for adoption. She is said to be 4 years old and good with kids, cats, and dogs. If you’d like to add Willow to your family, please let us know!

Additional adoption info

The Marion County Dog Pound is now under the control of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and is located at 2252 Richland Road. We are required by law to hold a dog for 3 days to allow the owner to claim the dog. If it is not claimed, it will then be an adoptable dog. We will post all adoptable dogs on our Facebook page along with pictures. The adoption fee is $135 which includes the spay/neuter surgery, Heartworm test, rabies, Intra-trac, and DAPP Vaccines, and a dog tag. We are a rescue friendly facility and do not charge a pull fee, rescues are more than welcome to make a donation when pulling a vetted dog but it is not required.

Dogs are as is. There are no health guarantees
Adopters are required to sign an agreement to spay/neuter the dog if not already done, the dog may be seized if any portion of the adoption contract is broken.

More about this shelter

The Marion County Dog Pound is a county facility that is run by the Marion County Sheriff's Office. We respond to stray/loose dogs and Humane cases, bringing in several dogs a week. Since the Sheriff's Office took over, we have became classified as a no-kill facility only euthanizing for sickness and aggression. We are doing our best to maintain a no-kill environment and are working diligently to help and re-home every dog that comes through our doors. To do this we need the help of our community. Volunteers are welcome to come out at any time!
