My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Mela and I`m a female beagle/chihuahua mix weighing in at 11 pounds. I`m around 9 years old, and I love to walk, smell the ground, and wag my tail. I love everyone I meet and if you`re my person, I would love to snuggle next to you as much as you allow. Otherwise, give me a soft dog bed and I`m happy! My perfect person would be someone home a great deal and loves to have me snuggle next to you! I`m very curious and like to watch everything you do! I get along great with my doggy brothers and sisters and I think I`d get along with cats, if I ever meet one! However, I`d love to be your one and only and get all your attention!

I have a few mobility issues, but they mainly keep me from jumping up on things or from just standing for long periods of time. I can handle steps well, can run, and jump down from a couch!
My doctor found a mass on my spleen, so I had surgery to have it removed! It was benign, so I`m doing really well! I didn`t have a very good dental plan at my last place, so I`m missing quite a few teeth, but I`m still able to eat dry kibble and treats, so all good!

I can sleep very nicely in my crate at night, although I wouldn`t be sad if you let me stay on your bed! I`m doing really well with my potty training as long as you are paying attention to me!

I`d be so grateful to find someone to love me that I will love back a thousand fold. Is that YOU!? Please come and meet me!

Additional adoption info

An adoption application must be completed prior to coordinating a private meet and greet with the dog's foster parent. An adoption contract is signed at the time of adoption. Veterinarian reference and a home check is also required. Since we do home checks for all potential adopters, we prefer to adopt only within the central Ohio area. All dogs have an adoption fee of $300.00 which covers their vaccinations (including rabies, heartworm testing and heartworm prevention) while in our care, worming, microchipping and spay or neutering prior to adoption. Please email us at contactus@powellpaws.org if you would like to meet one of our great, adoptable dogs.

More about this rescue

PAWS (Powell Animal Welfare Society) is a 501(c)(3), all-volunteer, foster-based dog rescue serving the Columbus, Ohio area. Our volunteer rescue, provides veterinary care and finds loving homes for stray, neglected, and/or abused dogs from overpopulated shelters in Ohio and neighboring states.

PAWS strives to eliminate the needless euthanasia of homeless animals, one dog, one adopter at a time. We are in need of more loving foster homes for homeless dogs. PAWS can only save a dog if we have a foster home to care for it since we have NO kennel. Each foster home provides shelter and care, while PAWS provides food, veterinary care (including spay/neuter) and all necessary supplies such as crates, bowls, leashes, collars, etc.
