My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 1990

Early in the month of December, we received an urgent call for help and, without hesitation, we answered.
It's been a few short months now and, after some settling in time, we are happy to introduce all to Hojo!

Hojo has not had an easy life, but you'd never know it based on her extraordinary resilience, her willingness to trust, and her joyful demeanor.

Having lost the only caretaker she has known, all while living in less than ideal conditions- both caged and covered, she continues to blossom into a beautiful and forgiving soul.

Hojo is a 35 year old confirmed Female Blue Fronted Amazon.
She is quite petite.and dainty for her species, but she possesses the biggest heart.
Hojo lives for kisses..and isn't shy about asking for them.
In fact, she'll lean in requesting them

Hojo has made great progress with stepping up, and allows herself to be carried close to chest like an infant!.
She yearns  for that closeness.

Hojo sounds perfect, but as with everything, there are a few challenges with this sweet girl.
She is LOUD. Hojo has moments of being very vocal and will yell at times until she is satisfied.
Apartment/ Condo life is not in her best interest as neighbors could understandably take issue.

Hojo has gotten her taste of freedom from her cage and takes full advantage of that time.
Out of cage time is a requirement for this girl.
If cage time is mandatory upon leaving the house, this funny girl will yell in protest.
Hojo does say 'bye bye' when you leave and happily greets you when you return.

Hojo is a wanderer! She can be destructive.  Wood is her go-to.
A  java tree or free standing perch with plenty of toys is strongly recommended.
Supervision is vital to kerp both Hojo and your belongings safe.from this if allowed to wander on floors which she does like.

Hojo is a very gentle soul who loves deeply.
She is indifferent to dogs,  but does not appear to want other birds around  her.
Highly recommended she be away from smaller species of birds to maintain a happy household.

Diet consists of a mixture of Harrison's coarse pellets mixed with Higgins Mayan.

Hojo has been introduced to egg whites, leafy greens, carrots, and some fruits that she thoroughly enjoys.
She is very curious about new foods being offered.

This little lady is an adorable little hurricane who is looking to love her forever family.

Hojo has been disease tested for chlamydia and PBFD.

She is being fostered in Howell, NJ and will require in-person visits before adoption.
We do not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
