Hershey Kiss 3 is a shy, gentle young dog who came to the shelter in need of extra care and patience. She arrived underweight and under-socialized, and the busy shelter environment can feel overwhelming for her. She does best when allowed to move at her own pace in calm, predictable environments.
Hershey Kiss 3 is currently spending time in a short-term foster home, which has helped staff learn more about how she does in a home environment. With the help of tasty treats, she was able to get into the car and rode quietly, resting her head on the armrest—a sweet glimpse of her soft, trusting nature.
In the home, Hershey Kiss 3 remains cautious but is making small strides each day. She is learning the basics of housetraining and has started practicing “sit.” She is food motivated and does well with a slow feeder as she continues to gain weight. Although she is quiet in her crate, she has not yet learned not to potty in it and would benefit from an adopter who is home often and willing to patiently teach her the basics. Although shy, Hershey Kiss 3 is easily handled and has shown trust with her foster family. She even allowed her foster mom to put a sweater on her to help keep her warm in the cold, a small but meaningful sign of her gentle, cooperative nature.
Hershey Kiss 3 loves snuggling on her dog bed and settles nicely when left alone for short periods. After a few minutes, she typically curls up on her bed and snoozes, showing that she can relax once she feels safe and comfortable. Once she feels secure, Hershey Kiss 3 truly shines. She enjoys sitting close to her person, leaning in for comfort, and offering gentle affection. She thrives with people who are patient, observant, and willing to let her build confidence at her own speed.
Hershey Kiss 3 recently visited a pet store to see how she would do meeting new people. She enjoyed walking down the aisles, taking in all the new sights and smells. While she was very shy at first when meeting new people, she warmed up with slow introductions and tasty treats, showing just how sweet she can be once she feels comfortable.
Hershey Kiss 3 would do best in a quiet home and prefers to be the only dog, as she is most fulfilled by human companionship.
If you have a soft spot for shy dogs and the heart to help one blossom, Hershey Kiss 3 may be the perfect match. She is currently in a foster home. To be connected with her foster family or to learn more, please email dogfost
