Steve Martini is a sweet Golden Doodle Maltese mix, at about 1.5 years old and 30 pounds.
He was found wandering alone through an apartment complex in South LA. A kind neighbor took him in and searched for his family, but Steve had no microchip or tag, and no one came forward. Luckily, a friend of Shelter Hope stepped in, groomed him, and contacted us to help find him a home.
Sadly, during his neuter appointment, the vet discovered he had attack wounds on his stomach from his time as a stray. Despite everything he has been through, Steve’s heart remains gentle, sweet, and full of love.
Steve Martini is still settling and remains quite timid, but is slowly working on his confidence. He is affectionate, gentle, and loves pets. He gives the sweetest kisses and bonds with people who show him patience and kindness. He is great with gentle kids and other dogs, and with a little time, he’ll blossom into the happy dog he is meant to be.
Steve Martini is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, and now he is ready for a home where he can finally feel secure, loved, and cherished. If your heart is open to a patient, tender, and loyal friend, Steve Martini is ready to meet you!

More about this shelter
Since opening in 2011, Shelter Hope Pet Shop has rescued and re-homed over 16,000 animals.
Located at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks, Shelter Hope is a nonprofit, community-powered dog rescue dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of dogs in need, their adopters, and overcrowded shelters. We facilitate adoptions, welcome volunteers, and are committed to empowering the community through education and awareness.
Shelter Hope rescues strays and surrenders from as nearby as Ventura County and the LA area to as far as Bakersfield, where the community faces a severe animal overpopulation crisis. Moreover, we take in dogs of all ages from overcrowded no-kill and high-kill shelters, as well as from other urgent situations where dogs are at risk. These include often overlooked seniors and those with medical challenges.
While visiting local shelters is always encouraged, Shelter Hope provides a family-friendly, welcoming, retail-style environment where visitors can comfortably meet and connect with rescue dogs. Our thoughtful and thorough adoption process helps ensure each dog is placed in a stable, forever home, reducing the likelihood of them re-entering the shelter system.
Shelter Hope works tirelessly to give dogs in need a real second chance while easing pressure on overcrowded shelters.
Be part of the solution: adopt, don't shop.
