My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zuni is a sweet, floofy, young husky mix with a big heart. He can be a little shy at first, but show him some gentle affection and patience, and you'll get to watch something special happen.

When Zuni is allowed to move at his own pace, he blossoms. He’s incredibly sweet and adores both humans and dogs. In playgroups, Zuni shows his playful side with loose, wiggly body language, happy play bows and joyful little “pop” moves. He loves to zoom around once he’s comfortable and seems to gain confidence from having canine buddies around.

Zuni also enjoys going for walks and does nicely on leash, making him a lovely companion for daily strolls. While he’s still gaining confidence with new people and environments, his gentle nature and love of play make him a wonderful candidate for a home with a friendly, outgoing dog who can help show him the ropes.

If you’re looking for a kindhearted, playful pup who just needs a little time to feel safe - and who will reward you with sweetness and joy - Zuni might be your perfect match. Come say hi to him today!

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios.
