My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Garlic and Toast are a bonded pair of twinsies who have only recently grown out of kittenhood. They are high energy and love play time. If you bring the magic red dot every day, they will be the happiest kitties around. Garlic is the bigger one who looks a bit more like an Egyptian Sphinx cat. He's got the model cheek bones. He's still adjusting to being petted, but he likes it in spite of himself. He also seems to like baby talk. If you have a high pitched voice and like talking to your pets with cheerful, encouraging nonsense, he would enjoy that very much. He is your sweet, sweet foo-foo who did such a good job today and looks so pretty! Yes, he does! Garlic is also food obsessed. He wants all the food - hers, yours, mine, his own. He will eat it all. So, you have to be careful not to overfeed him. On the other hand, it is fairly easy to bribe him. Toast is the smaller one who is more outgoing. She will delay eating to get more pets and isn't super food motivated. She is also the most dedicated to defeating the red dot. It is her mission in life. She will stare at the drawer that has the laser pointer in it, trying to make it come out and face her. If I rattle that side table at all, both cats come running. If I even reach toward the drawer with the laser pointer, she starts whipping her head back and forth looking everywhere for the dot. Is it here? Is it hiding? Has it arrived? Must not miss the dot! Toast has graduated to sitting on the same bed or couch as the human, but has not reached the point of cuddles yet. Cooler temperatures are the perfect time to teach these beautiful house panthers about cozy sleep togethers. These cats need a calm environment as they are a bit shy, but also a lots of play time and interaction. When they get bored, shenanigans occur. There is no corner or pile of stuff they will not explore. There is no object they will not turn into a toy, if they have to. If you have lost some small, random thing like a button, don't worry, they will find it. But, give them some space to run around and something to occupy their minds every day and they will be well-behaved house panthers.

More about this rescue

Hyde Park Cats is a local, all volunteer group dedicated to helping stray and homeless cats in and around Chicago's Hyde Park. We received our 501©(3) status in 2014 and we were founded in 2008. See all our adoptable kitties on our webpage: http://hydeparkcats.org/adopt/

All of our cats are in loving foster homes, which means the cat or cats you adopt will be familiar with the sounds, smells and movements of life in a home and accustomed to living with humans. Our adoptable have been interacting on a daily basis with people who know this particular cat intimately, and the foster mom or dad can tell you all about the cat's individual personality, habits, preferences. You can't judge a cat by its cover! And while we can't predict the future or know everything about a cat, we can help you choose the cat who is right for you.

We have an adoption application and an adoption fee. This fee goes towards covering their vet costs. All cats adopted out by us are neutered/spayed, micro-chipped, tested for FIV/FeLV, and treated for fleas and worms.
