My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Case File: Sam Spade
Suspect: One medium-haired black cat
Known Aliases: Heartbreaker, Purr Machine, "That's Enough, Thanks"

Sam Spade is a classic detective like his namesake suggests: sharp, playful, affectionate...until the case is closed. He enjoys a good cuddle and a solid play session, catnip, lickable treats, but he's a professional with standards. When he's had his fill of attention, he will let you know - no drama, no warnings, just a quiet exit.

He's the kind of cat who will charm you, make you feel special, then retire to his office (sun-soaked windowsill) to ponder and observe. If you respect his boundaries, he's loyal, engaging, and endlessly entertaining. If you're looking for an independent cat with a personality and a respect for personal space, Sam Spade is ready to take the case - just don't push him past closing time.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1941 by the third female graduate from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, SAVE is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit animal shelter dedicated to protecting the health and welfare of homeless companion animals in the greater Princeton area and beyond. Through six core programs of Rescue, Shelter, Health and Welfare, Spay/Neuter, Foster and Adoption.

The SAVE shelter facility has the capacity to house upwards of 100 animals at a time (approximately 75 cats and 25 dogs). The shelter exceeds no-kill benchmark standards and ensures that adoptable animals facing adversity are given a lifeline, a chance to flourish, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
