Here's what the humans have to say about me:
A little bit about Sammy:
Kids: Unknown history with children. All interactions should be carefully supervised by an adult. Cats/Small Animals: Unknown history with cats or small animals. All introductions should be done slowly and carefully supervised. Dogs: Unknown history with other dogs. Potential for a home with another dog pending a successful dog-to-dog interaction.
Meet Sammy, a 2-year-old retriever/labrador mix with a sweet nature and lots of potential. Sammy is affectionate and enjoys human company, but he’s currently having a hard time navigating the shelter environment.
Sammy has some ongoing medical needs that will need to be monitored regularly. This may include regular veterinary care, medications, and ongoing support. Sammy has shown some dog reactivity towards dogs in shelter, which may be influenced by stress and discomfort. He will benefit from a calm, structured environment, continued behaviour support, and patient, positive reinforcement training to support his success. Sammy is looking for a committed, understanding home that can provide consistency, routine, and follow-through with both his medical and training needs. An adopter with experience, patience, and the ability to work closely with veterinary and behaviour professionals will give Sammy the best chance to thrive.
With the right support and a stable environment, Sammy has the potential to settle in and build confidence. If you’re ready to take on a rewarding journey and provide ongoing care and guidance, Sammy may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.
Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.
Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.
Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.
Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.
Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
