My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey friend! My name is Teddy Bear and just like a Teddy Bear I am super cuddly and sweet!

One thing you should know about me right off the bat is that I am, what my friends like to call, a Tri-Pod. That is their silly way of saying I only have 3 legs. It does not slow me down one bit, and I am still down to go on adventures with you!

I am one smart cookie and know lots of things! I know basic cues such as sit, down, paw (at least I'll TRY to give you my paw HAHA) stay and leave it. I love treats and positive reinforcement. You can use those things to teach me new things and become my best friend of course! I am high energy though and I can become easily frustrated if my energy and exercise needs are not met. I will need positive outlets and a calm environment to help me flourish.

I have such a silly and outgoing personality. I love to cuddle and lay with my friends. I think I am a lap dog even though I am way too big for that now. I love playing with toys and can show you my favorite ones when we meet! (Hint: The ones that squeak sure get my attention!)

I lived with another dog in my last home and have had lots of fun playing with larger dogs here at OHS. I am a big guy and have a rough and rowdy play style so I need to meet any canine companions prior to getting adopted. I also need a home without small dogs, cats or other small animals.

Sometimes I don't know my own size and can bump into things, so I need to go to a home without small children. Older dog-savvy kids are okay though!

Have I convinced you yet? If I have, I am part of the Diamond in the Ruff program, which you can learn more about here. I hope to see you soon!

Additional adoption info

Oregon Humane Society’s Portland and Salem campuses are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days per week. Adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis.

When you come to the shelter and see a pet you are interested in meeting, please take note of the pet’s name and visit the front desk in the lobby. Our Customer Care team will be happy to assist you with the next steps.

Step 1: Come to the shelter!

Visit our Portland or Salem campuses to view available pets in person! You can also view all adoptable animals on our website, which is updated with new pets every day.

The shelter is open for walk-through viewing from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days per week. Bringing home a pet is a family decision, so we encourage you to bring the whole family and other decision-makers. If you’re thinking about adopting a dog, don’t forget a leash!

Step 2: Meet and greet

Once you’ve found a pet you’re interested in meeting, take note of the pet’s name and visit the front desk in the lobby. We’ll have you fill out a brief questionnaire. You can also save time by filling out the questionnaire before visiting the shelter. Just let our staff know that you have already submitted your information and they can pull it up in our system.

Please note: Meet and greets are done on a first-come/first-served basis. There may be a wait time during our busiest times, including the weekends. Our goal is to help you within 30 minutes to arrange a meet and greet, but wait times may vary. We appreciate your patience. Be sure to allow enough time and have flexibility in your schedule when you visit.

Step 3: Take your new pet home!

We do not offer holds on any animals at this time. For more information about what is included with your new pet’s adoption, please head on over to our Adoption Support page.

All adopted animals are required to go home with safety mechanisms in place. We require that all cats and small animals go home in a carrier. You can bring your carrier from home or we will send your new cat or small animal home in a cardboard carrier. All dogs are required to go home on leash and we will safely secure them in your vehicle or rideshare for you.

More about this shelter

Oregon Humane Society is the largest animal welfare organization in the Northwest, with campuses in Salem and Portland, including a new Community Veterinary Hospital. OHS offers a wide variety of services from pet adoption, training, humane law enforcement, veterinary care, humane education, and disaster response.

OHS puts no time limits on how long animals remain at the shelter—a pet stays available for adoption as long as needed to find a loving home. If a pet in our care needs medical attention, the medical team provides that pet with the same level of care you would want your own pet to receive.
