My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application

Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Poor Kalispell has not had an easy time of it since arriving at the shelter back in August 2025.

Just a couple of weeks after she arrived as a stray, she gave birth to a litter of kittens, which meant she (and they) had to wait until the kittens were weaned before any of them could be listed for adoption. During this time, Kalispell was an excellent mother - perhaps a bit too good, as she did her best to shun attentions from the shelter staff and volunteers, preferring to keep them away from her babies (and of course, we HAD to socialize and handle the little ones, leading to much frustration for Kalispell).

Just when Kalispell's kittens were adopted and we thought she, too, would be ready to head home - she contracted a calicivirus infection requiring a fairly lengthy quarantine period, with little human contact daily (to help prevent the spread of infection).

She has now fully cleared her calici infection, but during the past couple of months, has grown depressed, antisocial, and slightly obese. She is now allowed to interact with other cats in a healthy-cat communal Meow Manor room, and gets many more human visits for snuggles and attention, but thus far has not perked up or shown much interest in interactions with any species.

Kalispell needs a calm and loving home with an understanding family who will help her gradually lose weight, while learning all about the love of humans and fun to be had as a family pet. With your help, she can recover her broken spirit and find joy in life again! She's still a young cat, with an estimated birth date of 8/1/24, and we all want to see her blossom and live a long and happy life in an adoptive home.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Kalispell is a suggested minimum of $50 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Additional adoption info

Our minimum adoption donations are indicated on each pet's listing.

The first step toward adoption is to fill out the application, which we can email to you or you can find on our website:

http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application

Filling out the application in no way commits you to adopting - it simply enables us to get you preapproved, in case you decide you want to adopt. If you are then approved and offered a pet placement, you may always refuse the placement. If you accept a placement, we always give you three days (for puppies and kittens) or thirty days (for adult dogs and cats) to live with each other; if during that time you decide that your new pet simply won't work out, for any reason, we will accept the pet back with a full refund of your adoption donation. You could either return the pet directly to us, or have it picked up on our next transport! I must say, we are very proud of our successful placement record - we really work hard to make sure you and your pet will be a great match.

If you are out of our immediate area, we ask that you email some photos of your home, yard (including fence if you have one), any "animal-specific" areas (such as a dog run, cat tree, or sleeping area) and any other pets you currently own. Sometimes photos enable us to skip the pre-adoption home visit, which can speed things up considerably for out of area adoptions! For the vet reference, either a vet who is seeing your current pets, or a vet who saw a former pet, is acceptable. If this is your first pet ever, congratulations on joining the pet world! :-D We will consider your application without a vet reference, but we would like to know what vet you think you will use for your pet. Without a vet reference, please be sure to provide at least two strong personal references who would know how you are with animals.

If we have an upcoming transport scheduled to your area, we will make every effort to process and approve your application in time for the transport.

Go meet their pets

We do transports of adopted pets to the Seattle and Spokane areas at least once each month, and can sometimes schedule transports to other locations in WA, ID, OR, MT as needed.
