My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Precious!

This large lady was brought to the SPCA when her owner was no longer able to care for her.

Precious can be timid at first, but once she's comfortable she will fill your home with her personality. Her foster says that she is becoming more adventurous by the day. Precious loves her scratching post and watching the birds through the window. She knows how to sit, roll over, and say "please" for her meals. She also loves to be brushed, and telling her "I'll brush you" will make her come right up to you.

At her previous home, Precious had access to a cat-proofed balcony and would likely enjoy spending time in a catio in her new home too. She is toilet-trained, but uses a normal litterbox as well.

Precious is currently on a weight loss journey and needs a home that will continue to work on this with her. She will need an attentive family who will carefully monitor her calorie intake and make sure she gets enough exercise to shed some pounds.

Do you think you could be Precious's person? As Precious is in a foster home, visits with her are by appointment only. Please submit an application online and we will be in touch with the first suitable applicant to set up a meet and greet.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
