My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

POTEAU

Age: 4 years

Sex: Female (Spayed)

Breed: Mixed

Color: Beige

Weight: 14 kg

Height: 47 cm (shoulder)

Rescue Story

Poteau was brought to a municipal shelter with her mother after her owner passed away.

She has experienced loss and change, and because of that she is naturally a bit cautious at first — but once she feels safe, she becomes affectionate and deeply attached to her people.

‍‍ With People

Poteau is a gentle, sensitive girl who warms up with time and consistency.

• She may be shy at first, but will take treats and allow gentle touching, and bonds quickly once she feels safe

• She enjoys being held and can be picked up by supporting her belly

• Once comfortable, she often shows her belly and seeks affection

• She is uncomfortable with sudden movements, loud noises, or screaming from children under 13

• She bonded immediately with her foster mom and is very affectionate and cuddly with her

• She took about a month to trust her foster dad, but now feels secure with him

• With time and repeated positive interactions, she becomes relaxed and affectionate with anyone

With Other Dogs & Cats

Poteau is polite, selective, and socially aware.

• Greets new dogs politely but does not rush into play

• At dog parks, she observes first and chooses calm, gentle dogs to approach

• Avoids overly rough or intense dogs on her own

• Currently lives with both a dog and a cat without issues

• Initially curious about cats, but once corrected, she learned to respect them

• On walks, she may look at cats but follows her handler without pulling

At Home

• Moderate energy — enjoys walks and outdoor time, then settles calmly indoors

• Walks well on leash without pulling

• Very quiet — rarely barks

• Uses both pee pads and outdoor potty

• Calm and well-behaved inside a kennel

• No separation anxiety — she now spends most of the day resting when alone

Car Rides

• Afraid of getting into and out of cars and needs to be lifted

• Once inside the car, she stays still and calm during the ride

Food & Handling

• Not food-aggressive toward people

• May lightly growl if another dog approaches while she is eating

• Eats enthusiastically and may try to take other dogs’ food — separate feeding is recommended in multi-dog homes

Personality Summary

Poteau is a gentle, soft-hearted dog with a cautious nature.

She is not bold or pushy — she watches, thinks, and then decides when she feels safe.

With patience, she forms deep bonds and becomes very loving, loyal, and affectionate.

Fostered since Oct 2025

Poteau has been living in a foster home with four adults, a dog, and a cat since October 2025 and has been doing beautifully.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
