My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pluto Tag #1807 | Cane Corso | 4 years old | Spayed Female

Pluto arrived at our shelter with Jupiter after being impounded by the SPCA due to being left in a home under deplorable conditions. Despite this, she has shown resilience, and the capacity to trust again. Now, she's ready for the next chapter of her life— one filled with safety, structure, and love.

Pluto is the softer soul of the pair. She too is slowly coming out of her shell with new people and once she trusts you she is a love bug, and absolutely loves playing fetch and giving kisses. She has a sweet, cautious personality and responds beautifully to patience and reassurance. With the right person, Pluto will blossom into a devoted and affectionate companion.

Ideal Home:
We are seeking experienced Cane Corso (or similar mastiff breed) owners only for both Pluto and Jupiter. They will need adopters who understand the breed’s size, strength, and working-dog mindset, as well as the commitment it takes for training and to continue building their confidence. Stable routines, consistent training, and a calm home environment will be essential. If you have the experience & dedication to offer one of these incredible dogs the life they deserve, please contact us.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our adoption procedures have changed.

Our new procedures are as follows:

First view our animals on our facebook page under photos, on Petfinder.com or Adopt-A-Pet.com. If you are interested in any of our animals, email us at animalshelter@islipny.gov and we will send you an application to complete. When you email the application back to us, please list the dog/dogs name and tag number.

Once the application is complete and we have all the proper paperwork, we will contact you to make an appointment to come see the animal. Appointments will be spread out so we don't have two families here at once. All introductions and meet-and-greets will be done outside.

We thank everyone for your patience, understanding, and support through this difficult time. Everyone stay safe and healthy!
....
In order to adopt an animal from us you must first meet the animal in person. Once that goes well, you will be required to fill out the application including personal information, current pet information, and vet information. We require you to do a "meet and greet" if you have other dogs, to ensure all dogs get along. Once approved, you can come pick up your pet!
Adoption Fees:
Cats - $100
Dogs - $131
Fees include the cost of spay or neuter surgery, micro-chip and vaccines.

Go meet their pets

210 South Denver Ave., Bay Shore NY 11706
