My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ready for her flight home to 🇺🇸

🐾 Background:
It is hard to believe that this beautiful girl once lived on a dog meat farm. Areum was rescued from a dog meat farm in Guesan in the summer of 2024.

She spent time at a local shelter before moving to our partner boarding house. Since then, she has been living peacefully with other dogs and showing everyone what a gentle and loving soul she is.

🐾 Personality and Socialization:
Areum is truly a joy to be around. She loves people and dogs and has a soft, sweet, and easygoing nature. She greets everyone she meets with warmth and happily soaks up attention. Affectionate and gentle, she has a calm presence that makes people fall in love with her quickly.

With other dogs, Areum is always wonderful. Big or small, playful or calm, she gets along with everyone. She has never caused trouble or gotten into fights. She has a medium energy level and is very easy to live with.

Areum has no prior experience living with cats. However, given her gentle and easygoing personality, we believe she could do well with cats with a proper and slow introduction.

🐾 Behaviour:
Areum is smart, obedient, and very easy to care for. She walks nicely on leash and truly enjoys her walks. She rides well in the car, tolerates baths without fuss, and does great at the vet.

During vet visits, she stays calm and seems more interested in getting attention than being stressed. She is quiet, well mannered, and shows no destructive behaviors.

🐾 Health and Diet:
When Areum was rescued, she tested positive for heartworm, but she has completed her treatment and is now healthy and ready for her forever family. She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and fully vaccinated. She takes monthly parasite prevention and has shown no signs of allergies. She eats kibble twice a day and does well on her current diet.

🐾 Ideal Home:
Areum’s gentle and easygoing personality allows her to fit into many types of homes. She would love a family where someone is home most of the time, as she enjoys spending time with her people.

A home with humans who love dogs and enjoy outdoor activities would be a wonderful match for her. Having another friendly dog would be a bonus. Areum has come such a long way and is ready to give her love and loyalty to her forever family.

More about this rescue

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.

We divide our mission across three basic pillars: rescue, adopt, and engage. Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:

RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.

ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.

ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
