Tiana came into our care after being found wandering with another dog, Genevieve, for several weeks before being brought in. Since arriving at the shelter, she has been very shy and shut down, struggling to navigate the new environment. Like Genevieve, Tiana is cautious and fearful, and the shelter is not a place where she can truly thrive.
Tiana’s behavior is rooted in fear rather than aggression. She is beginning to show small signs of curiosity but needs time, patience, and gentle guidance to feel safe and confident.
The challenges:
-Very timid and shut down in the shelter.
-Fearful of people, handling, and new experiences.
-Progress is slow and requires patient, calm handling.
-Sensitive to the noise, activity, and unpredictability of the shelter.
The good stuff:
-Gentle and non-aggressive in her interactions.
-Shows curiosity when given space and time to observe.
-Responds positively to calm, patient encouragement and gentle handling.
-Likely to continue improving once removed from the shelter environment.
Who she needs:
Tiana needs a quiet, patient home with someone experienced with shy and fearful dogs. She will do best in a low-stimulation environment with predictable routines and consistent, gentle guidance. With time, patience, and careful support, Tiana has the potential to gain confidence and develop trust in a safe, loving home.
