I’m a very chill kitty that likes to hang out with my favorite person. I love to snuggle with my foster mom on the couch and take naps in a sunbeam. I love to chase feather wands and toys that move. When I need attention, I tap my foster mom with my front paw. I’m very food and treat motivated.
Hobbies: Playing with toys that move, including wands and battery-powered toys. I love cat nip, especially cat nip bananas.
HOW I CAME TO THE PGSPCA
My siblings and I were living outdoors and being fed by a nice neighbor who contacted PGSPCA because she thought I was such a sweet kitty who would thrive in a home.
DREAM FAMILY
I am looking for a home where I will be spoiled princess. I’m usually a quiet cat, and I would like a home where I can bond with one or two adults who would allow me time to get comfortable and acclimated to a new home. I’m treat and food motivated, so that is the way to my heart. I may need a hiding space or two to help me adjust to my new home, but I won’t need them for long.
My Profile
Age: almost 2 years
Good with kids: never met kids, but probably scared of young ones.
Good with dogs: yes, if they're laid back
Good with other cats: Possibly a calm, friendly one, and with a slow introduction.
Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Yes
Activity level: snuggling with my favorite person and rolling with my cat nip banana.
Meet Me
If you are interested in Carmela, consider letting us know by filling out a (no-obligation) adoption application at pgspca.org. Please consult our Adoption FAQ before contacting us.
Please check the adoption-show-attendees page to see if Carmela will be attending the next adoption show.
NOTE: We are an all volunteer group and do not operate a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes. If you are not local to the DMV area, but are interested in one of our adoptable pets, that's okay. If you're approved to adopt, we can work out the geography!

All of our adoptions begin with a visit to one of our adoption events. The adoption coordinator and/or the pet's foster parent will review the applications received. The applicant (if any) whose responses best fit the needs of the particular pet will generally be contacted within a week to schedule a home visit. A vet check and personal reference is also required prior to visiting your home. Our non-refundable adoption fee is $250 for dogs, $85 for kittens ($150 for a pair of kittens), and $75 for an adult cat. The fee covers spay/neuter, core vaccines (distemper and rabies), deworming, microchipping, and the general care of the animals. Per our contract, if you cannot keep your adopted pet for any reason, it must be returned to our program. We will try to find it a new home.

We don't have a central shelter facility, so the best place to meet our adoptable cats and dogs is at our adoption shows! Please check www.pgspca.org -> adopt -> adoption_show_attendees the day before the show and we will do our best to let you know if he/she will be there!

More about this rescue
The PGSPCA is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to animal welfare. We are chartered by the State of Maryland, but we receive no state or county funds. Our activities are supported solely by contributions, dues and fundraising events.
We have three main objectives:
• To reduce the number of unwanted litters of dogs and cats through our progressive spay/neuter program – We have altered more than 20,000 animals over the past five years, many of them at no charge;
• To prevent cruelty to animals and all animal suffering through humane education, neglect and cruelty investigations, protective legal action, and an active dog and cat adoption program – We receive about 1,000 calls a month for cruelty investigations, spay and neuter assistance and adoption requests;
• To protect all animals against suffering and abuse through education on legislation affecting the protection of all animals – We regularly educate the public and provide testimony about animal welfare to county and state legislators.
