Socialization: Travis loves meeting new people. He’s very friendly and loves their attention. He’s met a couple of dogs. One while on a walk and the other dog barked at Travis and he just walked on around the dog and owner. Another dog is in the yard behind my home and Travis went out to meet Cynthia. Cynthia greeted him by barking and jumping at the fence. Travis again, turned around and walked away. He’s not aggressive towards the other dogs. He just ignores them when they are barking at him.
Training: He’s very well behaved upon my home. He’s crated when I’m at work but at night he’s loose to wander the house. Most nights he sleeps either on the floor in my bedroom or downstairs in his crate. When I’m home his crate is always open and he wanders in and out of it. Sometimes he takes his favorite toy, a blue hydrant in there to chew on it. He’s house broken and lets me know when he needs to go out. He doesn’t want to stay out long as it’s cold here and he comes back in quickly. He knows several commands such as no, drop it, stop. Working on sit when we go for walks and stop at the curb.
Crate trained: He’s crated when I go to work. I put a couple of treats in the crate and he goes right in. He settles down quickly and doesn’t bark or cry when left alone. He will even go in if I just tell him to go in your crate. He’s always happy to see me when I get home. When I’m home he’s free to go in and out of his crate whenever he wants.
Leash trained: Travis walks very well on the leash. Stays right beside me. He will pull if he sees something he wants to check out but stops when I say no. He definitely knows what the word no means.
Activity level/requirements: Travis loves to retrieve his toy when I throw it in the yard. He comes back with it and will give it to me to throw again. When he’s tired and ready to go in he keeps the toy and go to the door. He only has hard rubber dog toys as he will pull the squeaker out of any other toy within minutes.
Fence requirements: I have a 4 foot fence and he seems content to stay in the yard. He has never tried to jump or climb over the fence even when there’s a dog walking on the other side.
Personality: Travis is a friendly, lovable dog. He’ll cuddle up next to me on the couch and puts his head on my lap. He loves any attention that he can get.
Health history: UTD on vaccinations, is neutered, microchipped, & on monthly heartworm preventative. He is getting back to what his normal weight should be. He has been given a cytopoint injection for an environmental allergy in my home.
Foster comments: Travis is a very obedient dog. He doesn’t seem to like the cold here, as he came from Georgia. He enjoys being with me whenever I’m home and follows me around the house. If I’m busy he’ll take his toy and go lay down and chew on it. When I’m in my home office he curls up under my desk. Usually has his toy with him to chew on while I work.
Foster Location: Riverdale Park, MD
Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions.
