Tiana The Disney Princess and the Frog movie inspired my name. I like the idea of being a princess. I was surrendered to the HSHC on January 7 because my owner is moving and he is not taking me along. I am 9-years-old and have lived with him all my life. I’m trying not to complain about suddenly becoming homeless. The people at this shelter have all been kind, caring, and compassionate. They did tell me that I am overweight, at 17.7 pounds. Therefore, I need to lose some pounds. They also found out that being examined by a veterinarian or medical personnel made me very nervous. I became fearful, hissy, and tried to run and hide. This was tricky because I developed an upper respiratory infection. They figured out how to treat me with medicine, and I have now recovered. They have placed me on a diet food designed to help me slim down. When the interviewer lady (IL) first approached me, I wasn`t interested in talking. However, the next time she stopped to talk, I felt more sociable. I let her pet me with her hand and also with the “back scratcher”. I zoned out on those chin and cheek rubs, flopping over on my side to allow for more scratches. She told me I am a very pretty black-and-white DSH with an attractive white scarf on my chest and LONG white whiskers. I am already spayed and house-trained. If my future owner happens to have one of those retractable, metal back scratchers, I know we are going to get along just fine! 2-13-26

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
