Our Team Says: Marshmallow was rescued from a backyard breeding situation with 7 other dogs. All of them being seniors, having lived a life of neglect. We've gotten them back on track :)
Their Foster Parent Says: "Living with Marshmallow has been a genuinely easy and comforting experience. He brings a calm, steady presence into the home and settles naturally into daily routines. Indoors, he’s relaxed and low-maintenance, happy to nap, lounge nearby, or quietly keep you company without demanding attention. Outdoors is where he really lights up. Walks are his absolute favorite, and he moves with confidence and curiosity, often at a brisk pace and occasionally breaking into a little jog when he’s excited. He shows some interest in other dogs but is non reactive for most part. It’s joyful to watch, never overwhelming. Marshmallow is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for constant interaction but clearly wants to be close to his people. He’ll follow us from room to room, always choosing a spot where he can keep an eye on things, then settle contentedly. He’s not interested in playing with toys, but he has his own endearing routines. One of the sweetest is how he carefully gathers his favorite items and arranges them in his chosen spot on the sofa, like a little nest. Because he may remain low energy in the household, he needs his walks for stimulation, if not, he will scout, collect, and play with things from the house and bathroom. Overall, Marshmallow thrives on quiet companionship and structure. He would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a gentle, well-mannered dog who enjoys walks, values routine, and simply wants to be part of your everyday life- close to the people he trusts. He is SO SO cute, adorable, lovable, gentle, and ALL the best things in the world. He may be shy at first, but give him a week, and you'll get to see his true personality and his love for his humans."
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.
Energy level
LOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise. But still needs a solid adventure walk (30 to 60 minutes) in addition to potty breaks. He enjoys 3 walks a day, with one of the walks ranging around 60min. He shows low energy in the household but thrived during his walk.
TOLERANCE TO CITY
Adjusting to the city – Marshmallow can be shy and cautious at first until he settles into his environment. Following a week, he is currently thriving in the suburban area.
POTTY TRAINING
He uses the wee pad in the household, but also has success going potty outdoors.
COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS
In between bean – Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park.
BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)
Yes for most ages – very confident, gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy. He had some interactions with children during his walk. He appeared interested and gentle, lifting his paws to show his interest towards them.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS
Mostly – Generally good with other dogs but may be selective. Often he will hide behind you in the presence of big dogs, but he also had moments when he showed interest in Golden Retrievers and other calmer dogs. He is not reactive to other dogs.
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)
Would be okay to live with a cat
MOUTHY BEHAVIOR
Past this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff. He is very gentle and respectful towards people's hands and fingers. However, when bored, he likes to scout the bathroom and play with toilet papers.
SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)
Needs training – He continuously whimpers when his favorite human is out of sight. He shows strong attachment to one particular person and shows anxiety when that person is missing even for a second. However, he is ok when other people go missing. He's okay when left home alone - settles down, not a big issue.
LEASH MANNERS
Old Pro – Doesn’t pull hard but he tends to walk toward his left. He may get startled when he finds you walking behind him.
CUDDLE BUG LEVEL
Medium – He likes to snuggle next to you with his butt attached to your side. However, he also likes to rest in his favorite spot as long as his favorite human is observable.
JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLO
Calm Greetings – Marshmallow often lifts his front paws to greet new people, but he doesn't typically jump on them. He will jump on his humans when they return from outside but he easily takes corrections.
CRATE TRAINING
Not at all – Don’t even have one. He is fine in the household.
Medical status
Healthy for their age as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork. Marshmallow has had bloodwork done and a full dental as his teeth where in pretty bad shape upon being rescued.
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
