If you see pets listed by a private owner, it means that they’re adoptable through Adopt a Pet’s Rehome program – the safe and reliable way to find a loving new home for your pet.
Rusty is a 1-year-old Vizsla/Doberman mix who came to us as an emergency rescue last summer with no vet history and a previously fractured wrist. He later developed a serious bone infection and underwent months of treatment and a major surgery to save his leg. He is now fully healed and medically cleared. He loves walks and is non-reactive to people and dogs.
Rusty is incredibly affectionate and people-loving. He adores snuggles, burrowing under blankets, and being close to his humans. He has been great with people, older kids, cats, and even chickens.
Unfortunately, once healed and off pain meds, Rusty began showing severe food-related aggression toward other dogs. This goes beyond typical resource guarding and is likely tied to early deprivation and trauma. Because we have another dog and medically complex children, we cannot safely keep him in our home.
Rusty would do best as the only pet, where he never has to worry about food or competition and can fully relax.
