My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Yodel 💛

Yodel’s story begins in one of the most severe neglect cases our team has ever encountered. She was among 33 animals rescued from devastating conditions in a Dayton neighborhood—an environment filled with filth, overcrowding, darkness, and fear. After everything she endured, it’s completely understandable that Yodel is still a bit nervous as she learns what safety and kindness truly feel like.

Despite her past, Yodel is genuinely sweet at heart. She wants to trust again—she just needs a little time, patience, and a gentle approach. When she receives soft, gentle pets, you can see her walls slowly come down, and her sweet personality begins to shine through. Those quiet moments help her feel reassured and remind her that people can be kind.

Yodel loves comfy beds and would likely appreciate cozy cubbies or hiding spots where she can feel protected and secure while she builds confidence. A calm, understanding home will give her the space she needs to come out of her shell at her own pace.

With love, consistency, and compassion, Yodel has all the potential to blossom into a trusting, affectionate companion. She’s searching for a special person who will see her not just for where she’s been—but for the wonderful cat she’s becoming. 🐾💖

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
