** If you are interested in adopting Mabel, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **
Mabel is a darling, 4 and a half year old, 9 pound, Chihuahua mix who came to us from New Mexico after being surrendered to a shelter with five other dogs because her previous family “had too many pets.” We don’t totally understand it either — but what we do know is that Mabel is an absolute gem!!
This sweet girl has a gentle, mellow spirit and is friendly with everyone she meets. Mabel gets along well with other dogs and enjoys their company. Since she came from a home with other dogs, and really truly feels more comfortable around other dogs, we do think that it would be best for her to go to a home with another dog.

"Mabel so SO sweet and warmed up really fast!
She fit RIGHT into my pack. I mean she does so well with my dogs and I could tell once we got home and she saw me dogs, she relaxed right away.
She is a bit of a picky eater (probably got human or wet food in her last home) but I just add some warm water to her kibble and that will get her to eat it most of the time.
She is potty trained and great on walks. (She did have an accident or 2 in the first few days with us but once she learned out routine she knows to go outside and is definitely potty trained).
She is a total lover and loves to snuggle.
She doesn't like being crated, so we leave her loose when we leave the house. She does fine, doesn't chew or destroy anything. However (I know this thanks to our living room doggie camera) she does howl when left home. Not an issue to me since we are in a house, but she might not do well in an apartment or townhouse because of this.
Mabel is a sweet girl and will make someone very happy with her sweetness!"

Mabel is eager for a fresh start with someone who will cherish her and promise her forever — no more goodbyes, just love ahead.
Farfel's Rescue would love to see Mabel in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see her left alone all day while her family works full-time outside of the home, as she is much too social for that type of arrangement.
We'd like to place Mabel in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Mabel is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She has been fully vetted and is healthy and heartworm negative.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue
We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
