The Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) is dedicated to the health and welfare of each animal in our care. Our mission is to provide compassionate care for cats and dogs while expanding lifesaving programs, fostering collaboration, and educating communities to build a No-Kill Florida. Our goal is to find them permanent homes and promote responsible pet ownership. Our vision is a community where all animals are cared for and loved, a goal we pursue with unwavering commitment. Through our values of compassion, commitment, and responsibility, we endeavor to create an environment where the welfare of animals is a shared community priority.
In addition to our adoption services, HSSC offers a variety of programs designed to enhance the human-animal bond. These include pet therapy programs for children, seniors, and individuals with special needs, as well as basic obedience classes for dogs. We also provide numerous volunteer opportunities, allowing community members to engage with dogs, cats, and other areas of our shelter.
We are the area’s largest no-kill animal shelter, operating without city, state, or federal funding, and are not funded by any national humane organization. HSSC relies solely on private donations, bequests, and grants to continue our vital work.
