My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ever wondered what it would be like if a croissant became sentient and was also obsessed with you? That’s exactly what it’s like living with Dora. She’s perfectly golden brown on the outside and makes you feel all warm and toasty on the inside.

She is the ideal snugglebug and cuddle companion who's guaranteed to bring a smile with her happy face and wagging tail.

Want to sit on the couch and watch your favorite trashy reality show? Dora won’t judge and will be napping right next to you, within easy reach of pets and kisses. Want to head out and get some exercise? Dora loves getting outside so she can sniff around, discover new smells, and explore the world around her.

As expected for a pup her age, she has a healthy curiosity and a little bit of mischief in her. But, she responds well to gentle redirection and is eager to learn. She has already learned how to sit and is working on her leash walking (and other) skills. Dora is house-trained and can sleep through the night without accidents.

Dora is a gentle, adorable, goofy girl who is looking for her person and, when she finds them, she will melt their heart daily with her loving stare, enthusiastic greetings, and silly shapes she gets into during naptimes.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
