Meet sweet Memphis — an affectionate, easygoing boy whose gentle nature alone reminds you why rescue matters so much. 💛
Memphis was found last summer in Louisiana with his sister Maggie. Both were severely emaciated, and Memphis had suffered a fresh injury that left him without one of his back feet. While we’ll never know exactly what happened, an animal trap is suspected. Thanks to a dedicated rescue angel and proper care, he was lovingly nursed back to health.
Now in New England, Memphis has adapted beautifully to home life. He’s living with three other dogs and loves their company. He adores people, seeks out affection, and has a calm, gentle presence that his foster family truly cherishes. He’s crate trained, house trained, and an all-around easy boy to have in the home.
Memphis enjoys playing in the yard (and especially in the snow!), but he’s just as happy spending a lazy afternoon snuggled into a dog bed by the fire. He is a truly grateful dog who soaks up every bit of love he’s given.
His missing foot does not slow him down — it’s simply part of who he is. Last week, Memphis visited Canine New England, where he was fitted for a rear-foot prosthetic. In about two weeks, his new foot will be ready, and then he’ll be off and running again.
Going forward, Memphis will need a committed adopter who understands that prosthetics require ongoing care. As he grows and with normal wear and tear, his prosthetic will need adjustments and eventual replacements over time. He will also benefit from someone willing to help him continue building strength and muscle and supporting him as he becomes comfortable wearing it. He has already shown how adaptable and resilient he is, and he takes everything in stride.
Memphis is truly a gem — loyal, affectionate, gentle, and deserving of a family who will cherish him and include him in all of life’s moments.
If you’re looking for a special dog with a heart of gold and an incredible story, Memphis is ready for his forever home.

More about this rescue
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.
Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
