This handsome ginger boy was rescued from a highway rest stop near St. James in January 2026.
Herbie caught the attention of passer-throughs with his friendly demeanor and big cute face.
He liked when visitors pet him and gave him food.
Eventually, a WCHS volunteer caught Herbie and brought him to the shelter.
Herbie has an old eye injury which doesn't seem to bother him. He either has limited or no vision in his left eye.
Herbie was recently neutered and vaccinated.
He also tested positive for FIV. If he's still with the shelter this spring, we will retest him.
Herbie seems to like other cats.
He loves to be pet and talked to. He doesn't care to be held, but that's just fine. He's a big boy that would love to lounge around your house, look out the windows, and enjoy being in your presence.
Being he is FIV positive, he will need to be an indoor cat.
He's got some options for housing. He can be the only cat, live with other FIV cats, or live with non-FIV cats only if they are altered and will not fight with Herbie. FIV is mainly spread through deep bite wounds, so it very important that he gets along wonderfully with any cats who are non-FIV.
Please talk to your vet about FIV if you'd like to learn more. There are also many online sources to help you understand FIV, such as https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feline-immunodeficiency-virus-fiv/
Herbie is estimated to be a younger adult.
He's up to date on vaccinations and is neutered.
His fee is waived, in hopes of him finding his home soon.
