My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)

Everyone, meet Brick

Age: 4 years
Breed: Mixed
Weight: 30 pounds (a bit overweight)
Neutered: Yes
Vaccines: Fully up to date
Good with dogs: Yes
Friendly with people: Yes

Brick’s story started in a municipal shelter, where he was taken after being hit by a car. He healed on his own inside a kennel. Because of how the bone healed, he has a slight limp, but he is not in pain. It is simply the way his body recovered.

After his recovery, Brick was at risk of euthanasia. An animal lover stepped in and pulled him from the shelter, but the municipality warned that if he was returned to his territory, he would be euthanized. With no other safe option, the volunteer placed him in a paid boarding shelter.

That was three years ago.

Brick has been living there ever since.

He is a sweet, calm boy who gets along well with everyone. He asks for very little and gives so much love in return. No dog deserves to spend their entire life waiting behind kennel doors. Brick may walk a little differently, but he is just as deserving of a home, a family, and a soft place to rest as any other dog.

He is simply a good boy, and he has waited long enough.

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website zanisfurryfriends.org.

Go meet their pets

Most of our foster animals are in foster homes in or around New York City where they can be seen via appointment w/ the foster family.

We sometimes participate in events sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance of NYC of which we are proud to say we are a participating organization.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our animals are still in the NYC Animal Care and Control facilities for which we desperately seek foster care.

More about this rescue

Because of the pressing cage space dilemma, we take dogs and cats primarily from Animal Care & Control of NYC. If not for rescue and adoptions, more than the present 24,000 of the current 50,000 animals taken in yearly would not make it out alive. Our goal is to take as many animals as we can who make great family members/companions and give them a second chance. Temperament is our most important criteria. Ideally, all our animals are good w/ people of all ages and other animals (dogs/cats).
Our adoptees are either spayed or neutered, all UTD w/ shots/rabies vax, heartworm negative or feline combo negative, and microchipped. Most of our animals live in foster situations to help them reintegrate back into family life. We feel most animals prefer the company of other animals and hope our adopters consider giving pets to their pets. (We do apply the 2 kitty rule.)
Other times, we courtesy post for people who are obliged to surrender their animals but ask that they continue to foster their companions until appropriate new homes are found to limit the trauma.
