**Note: Currently, Peeko is in Korea, but she will fly to Vancouver on Feb. 12 upon adoption. If you are interested in adopting Peeko, please follow the link below.
Background
Peeko was rescued from a puppy mill in Boryeong, Korea in the summer of 2023. She spent two long years in a local shelter, often overlooked simply because she was no longer a young dog. We brought her into our care this winter, knowing she deserved a real chance at a loving home. Since then Peeko has been living with other dogs peacefully at our partner boarding house.
Personality and Socialization
Peeko has a low to medium energy level and a gentle spirit. She is calm and sweet once she feels comfortable in her surroundings. In new environments or with new people, she may be shy at first, but as she settles in, her true personality slowly shines through. She is soft, gentle, and very sweet.
Peeko enjoys a calm routine and is comfortable spending time on her own. She loves lounging and relaxing and is not a demanding dog. She is happiest in a peaceful environment where she can move at her own pace.
With other dogs, Peeko does well as long as they are friendly and gentle. She prefers smaller, calm dogs and is not a fan of very active or high energy dogs. In general, she is mostly indifferent to other dogs.
Behaviour
Peeko is quiet and independent and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. She does well during vet visits and walks nicely on leash. She is patient during bath time. She can feel a bit nervous in the car but continues to improve. She uses pee pads and has shown no destructive behaviours.
Health and Diet
Peeko is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and fully vaccinated. Her dental work and cleaning are complete, and she is on monthly parasite prevention. Peeko had patella luxation surgery on both hind legs in March 2024. She has no issues walking or running and has recovered very well. She is healthy and ready for her forever home. She eats kibble, does well on her current diet.
Ideal Home
Peeko is a gentle, loving, quiet girl looking for a calm and relaxing home. She would do best with someone who is home often and enjoys a peaceful lifestyle. An adopter with dog experience who is patient and caring would be a wonderful match. With patience and kindness, Peeko will reward her forever family with quiet companionship, loyalty, and a soft presence that makes a house feel like home.

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.
We divide our mission across three basic pillars: RESCUE, ADOPT, and ENGAGE.
Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:
RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.
ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.
ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
