My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB: August 26th, 2024

Mamma Mia (Mia) is a slender, sweet young cat who recently raised her final litter of six kittens and is now ready to enjoy life fully as a cherished companion. She is naturally skittish and can startle easily, often running for cover when she hears footsteps or becoming tense when hands approach her from the front. Even so, she has been making steady, heartwarming progress as she learns to trust.

Her emotional progress has been remarkable. What began as cautious acceptance of gentle touch has grown into genuine affection. She now leans in for cheek scratches, soft ear rubs, haunch rubs, bum scritches, and head pets. When Mia wants attention, she settles nearby and looks up expectantly, melting into her person’s hand with surprising confidence for a once-skittish girl. She prefers to spend her time in the same room as her humans, and will move rooms a few minutes after you do, once she’s certain you’re not coming back.

Mia is highly food-motivated: with her sharp memory, Mia knows exactly where the treats are stored and appears instantly if she thinks someone might be heading toward that drawer. During food prep, she will weave between your legs, meowing to encourage you to hurry up.

She loves to throw toys into the air to catch them in her mouth, digging in blankets or crumpled paper for hidden treats, and she’s warming up to playing with teaser toys as well!

She would do well with a friendly resident cat who will help to show her that humans are safe and friends! Under her once-cautious exterior is a smart, expressive, affectionate cat who is discovering that humans can be safe and consistent. With patience and a predictable routine, Mamma Mia will continue to blossom into a trusting, deeply loving companion.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fee is $250 per adult cat, and $330 for kittens (under 8 months old).

This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the attention they need, are spayed or neutered, and receive a rabies vaccination at the appropriate age. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. As you can imagine, these fees only begin to cover our costs; donations and ongoing fundraising efforts carry us the rest of the way!

Note:
-Senior cats (8 years or older) have an adoption fee of the adopter's choice, vs. our standard adult adoption fee of $250.
-Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $192.50 per cat vs. $385 per cat. Thanks for giving two loving friends a home together!
