Meet Mr. Humphrey – Certified Good Boy, Ready for His Forever Home 🐾
Hello there! My name is Mr. Humphrey, and I am a true gentleman in search of a family to call my own.
Back in April, the kind folks at SSPCA rescued me and changed my life forever. I arrived scared, confused, and very unsure about this big world. I didn’t bark, didn’t wag, and didn’t trust much of anything. I mostly just sat quietly and watched from my pen, wondering what would happen next.
Then one day, everything changed.
A nice lady in a rolling chair came over and started talking to me. She took me for a walk, and I behaved so well that she decided to foster me. At first, I was afraid of just about everything. But she was patient and calm and let me learn to trust at my own pace. Slowly but surely, I realized the world could be kind.
Fast forward five months… and wow, look at me now!
I have earned both my AKC Canine Good Citizen and AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen certifications! My trainer says I’d make an excellent Emotional Support Dog— Not bad for a guy who once didn’t make a peep, huh?
Here’s what I’ve mastered so far:
• I walk beautifully on a leash like the proper gentleman I am
• I know sit, stay, wait, drop, stand, and more
• I never jump on people (manners matter!)
• I’m calm and patient when getting ready for walks
• I know how to navigate around wheelchairs and canes
• I’ve even learned to stand on a footrest so people can pet me easier
• I’m becoming a professional couch cuddler
I love going for walks, riding in the car, and watching the world go by out the window. I’m learning to enjoy toys and discovering that life can be fun. My foster mom says I’m super smart—and now that I know how to relax, I’m also very, very good at snuggling.
What I’m looking for in a home:
I would love a calm, peaceful place where I can have a soft bed to call my own. That bed is my safe space—the spot where I can just look at you and feel secure. I enjoy meeting new people and will politely shake hands, but I do need a little time to warm up.
I get along fine with other dogs, but I’m more of a “polite roommate” than a play buddy. I’d be happiest as an only dog or with another calm canine friend. Cats? Well… the lady says I think they look a little too fun to not chase, so a no-cat household would be best. I’d also do best in a home without small children.
A little health note:
The vet says I have “cow-hocked” rear legs, which gives me a shorter stride and can sometimes cause discomfort. Don’t worry—this is managed with medication when needed, and I handle it like the brave boy I am. I may need a little help jumping onto furniture, but I’m always grateful for a boost. I’m fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and ready to go!
The important details:
• About 3 years old
• 55 pounds
• Good with dogs
• Not good with cats
• Best with older kids
• Great with adults
I’ve come such a long way from the scared dog I used to be. All I need now is a loving family to share my new skills, big heart, and gentle soul with.
If you’re looking for a calm, loyal, incredibly well-mannered companion… I just might be your guy.
Apply today and let’s start our next chapter together!
Love,
Mr. Humphrey 💙
