My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Minty & Koi — a Bonded Duo!

Mint Chip Chocolate Chip (Minty) is a 6-month-old DSH grey tabby with the softest heart once you earn his trust. When he first arrived in foster care, Minty was completely feral — all hisses and fear — but after months of patience and love, he’s transformed into a gentle, affectionate boy who melts the moment he’s touched.

Minty is bonded to Koi, a 4-month-old neutered male orange tabby with a big personality to match his bright coloring. Koi is incredibly outgoing, friendly, and confident — the perfect complement to Minty’s shy nature. These two have grown up together and have spent months in a foster home alongside four adult cats, learning how to be well-rounded, social kitties.

While Minty can still be a bit timid and startles at loud noises, he truly thrives with other cats — especially Koi. He sleeps curled up with his feline friends, eats alongside them, and takes comfort in their presence. Koi helps bring Minty out of his shell, giving him confidence and reassurance just by being nearby.

Minty loves cheek scratches, sleeps through the night with his people, and enjoys hanging out close by on the couch. Koi, meanwhile, is always ready to greet you and bring playful energy into the home. Together, they balance each other beautifully.

This bonded pair would do best as indoor-only cats in a calm, loving home where they can continue to blossom together. If you’re looking for a sweet, shy-but-loving kitten and his confident, affectionate best friend, Minty and Koi might just be your perfect match.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in adopting an animal is making a trip to the shelter. Check the cats available and dogs available listings, but you might want to visit the shelter personally since new animals arrive every day. To learn more about animals available at the RPAS, call (707)584-1582.

The adoption process:
When you find an animal you want to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an adopter profile.
Shelter staff will talk to you about adopting an animal and answer any questions you might have. They will call your landlord if you rent your home, to make sure that type of pet is allowed.
Spend some time with the animal! Make sure that the entire family feels comfortable with the animal that you have picked out.
If you already own a dog and you want to adopt another one, you are required to bring in your dog to make sure that they get along. There is a big fenced in area next to the shelter where the dogs can interact.
There is an adoption contract and other paperwork to complete. Adoptions stop 1/2 hr before we close so we have ample time to go over all the information and answer your questions.
The adoption fee is $95.00 for cats and dogs (an additional $60.00 training deposit is required for certain dogs - training deposit is refundable with proof of completing an obedience class).

More about this shelter

We are a municipal shelter assisting the animals and people in Rohnert Park and Cotati. Our organization moved to its current beautiful facility in 1995. We have a skeleton paid staff and rely heavily on the assistance of over 100 active volunteers to enable us to offer all the services we do. We run a summer educational camp program for children, offer tours of the shelter, microchips for the public, provide stray animals refuge from the dangers outdoors and have a successful adoption program for the animals in our care.
