My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there… I’m Bronx. Yes, I’m the big handsome guy with the soulful eyes. I know — I’m a very

large dog. But before you get intimidated, let me tell you a secret…I am actually a gentle

marshmallow in a giant dog body. I’m sweet, goofy, and just a little bit dramatic (in a funny

way, of course). I love to play, I love to make you laugh, and I’m pretty smart too. If there were

awards for “Most Likely to Be Your Loyal Sidekick,” I’d already have the trophy.

Now, full honesty moment: I can be a little hand shy when I first meet someone. The world

hasn’t always been crystal clear to me, so I just like to take a minute to make sure you’re safe.

But once I know you? Oh buddy…You will never have a more devoted best friend.

Once I trust you, I lean in for pets, I stay close, and I look at you with these big, soulful eyes that

seem to say, “Where have you been my whole life?” (Warning: prolonged eye contact may

cause spontaneous adoption.)

Despite my size, I’m gentle with my love. I don’t want to knock you over — I just want to be

near you. Play with you. Learn with you. Build our little team.

What I’m looking for: Someone patient and kind. Someone who understands that trust is

special. Someone ready for a big dog with an even bigger heart. Give me a little time, and I’ll

give you everything. I’m Bronx — large, loving, loyal, and waiting for my person.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
