Tex is a sleek grey tabby cat, about 3 to 4 years old, with classic dark stripes swirling across his soft silver-grey coat and a distinctive "M" marking on his forehead. He has bright green eyes that sparkle with endless curiosity, always wide and alert, scanning every corner of the room for something new to investigate.
He's medium-sized and athletic, with a long, expressive tail that twitches like a question mark whenever something catches his interest. Tex is the ultimate explorer—whether it's a rustling paper bag, an open drawer, a sunbeam dancing on the wall, or the mysterious sound of a cabinet door—he has to check it out immediately. Playful, clever, and endlessly inquisitive, he greets new objects, people, and even his own reflection with a cautious sniff, a gentle paw pat, and then full-on enthusiastic discovery mode.
A true adventure cat in a compact, purring package!

We charge $88 to adopt a cat or dog. We have the following criteria for placing animals: Dogs need a fenced yard and are not to be chained or left outdoors 24 - 7. We encourage annual vet visits, and we do follow-up phone calls to see how the family and animal are doing. We don't adopt cats to homes where they will be outdoors or if they are to be de-clawed. All animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. Cats are given a felv test, which is included in our adoption price.

More about this shelter
Tombstone Small Animal Shelter was incorporated as a non-profit 501c3 in 1977. It is run by volunteers; we have a board that consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one member at large. We have 12 dog kennels (we reserve 2 for the Tombstone Marshal), including an indoor and outdoor area. We have seven spaces for cats. We have volunteers to walk the dogs, feed the cats and dogs 2 x a day, and clean cat and dog spaces and the yard 2 x a day. We have nine separate fenced yards to separate the dogs when playing who have personality differences. We do it because we want a first-class facility that is respected. Because of our No-Kill rules (except for illness beyond treatment or an aggressive dog or cat, all avenues have been exhausted). We do have a Facebook account attached to a First Giving donate button. We currently place all animals eligible for adoption on Adopt-a-Pet.com, and rescueme.org, as well as a listing in two Tombstone Newspapers and in the Sierra Vista and a Cochise county Newspaper weekly. WE HAVE OUR OWN WEBSITE: tombstoneanimalshelter.org. Check it out.
