Say “hello” to Birdie, a 15#, 13-week-old border collie girlie, who is ready for her next big adventure. This little girl is up for anything. Go to the vet? Sure, she’ll chase her lotus ball around the vet’s chair until she finds the treats inside. Visit her foster mom’s workplace with elevators, stairs, a bunch of new people, and on a day when it’s pouring rain outside? Sure, no problem: by the end of the day, she was assistant to the college publicist and had a bunch of new friends. Visit big dogs? Sure: let them try to catch her! Birdie is confident, social, curious, independent, and absolutely and hilariously lovable. It goes without saying that she’s a smarty pants, too!
Birdie loves toys, chasing them, tossing them for herself, rolling them around the room. She will tug relentlessly. The nice thing is that even though she plays vigorously with her toys, she doesn’t chew them up or eat them. (And the same goes for when she finds one of her foster mom’s slippers. They are safe with Birdie.) Birdie likes playing with other dogs and with people. That said, she can content herself playing on her own, too. Zooming around the house or the backyard is one of her favorite games. And then she will settle down in her crate afterwards with her big, stuffed Lamb Chop toy and take a nap. Birdie is energetic and busy, but she does settle and seeks affection and cuddles.
Birdie’s nickname is “Herdie Birdie.” Yes, she likes to zoom around, but she also likes to chase and sometimes grab pant legs, which are easy to confuse with a tug toy. Understanding the difference is one of her “learning objectives.” She is also learning to “sit,” “wait,” walk on a leash, and “give.” She is treat-and-toy-motivated and loves to learn. She is crate-trained, and mostly housebroken. She rides nicely in a crate in the car and loves to go on adventures.
Birdie is athletic, energetic, smart, and fun. She will need training and “border collie” activities to make sure she is fulfilled and lives up to her full potential. She could be a good agility, nosework, or maybe even herding partner. Her ideal home will be one with lots of fun things to do and learn, with adventures and puppy challenges, and with someone who understands and appreciates the needs and potential of a young border collie.
BIRDIE is started on puppy vaccines, wormed, and microchipped, and is also on flea & tick and heartworm prevention. As a condition of puppy adoption, she will need to be spayed when she reaches approximately 6 months (specific time to be determined by your vet). In addition to the adoption fee, puppy adoption requires a $75 spay/neuter deposit. Upon our receiving the spay/neuter certificate from you, the deposit is refunded.
