Third-party sites, such as Adopt-a-Pet and others, are not accurate or reliable sources of information about our shelter pets. Please visit IndyHumane.org for more information and to check the status of a particular pet.
Each adoptable cat and dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Our adoption counselors are happy to share their behavioral and medical background with you during the application process!

Adoption steps
- Submit Application
- View adoptable pets online at indyhumane.org/adopt. Then come to the shelter to apply for the animal.
- Interview
- You'll meet with an adoption counselor to make sure you and the animal are a perfect match!
- Meet the Pet
- You'll meet the pet and take them home!

You can find up to date information on all of our available pets by visiting IndyHumane.org/Cats or IndyHumane.org/Dogs. Please note that Adopt a Pet is a third party site and is not a reliable source for real time availability. Our website is updated throughout the day so if a pet’s photo is still listed they are available. For pets located at the shelter you are welcome to visit us during our regular business hours at 7929 N Michigan Road Indianapolis IN 46268 to meet them in person no appointment needed. If a pet is listed as being in a foster home or offsite you will need to complete an online application and our team will follow up to coordinate a meet and greet. Please keep in mind that submitting an application does not place a hold on the pet.
