My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The majestic, long-haired guy (think Fabio) has lived at a colony for years. We didn’t know that he his only about 5 years old until we took him to the vet. When Pepper began nuzzling up to the colony caretakers, we decided to see if the indoor life was for him. Only a short time into his indoor life, his fur is sleek and healthy, he enjoys being held, and even likes a good hair brushing! He even drools when he gets very relaxed and happy. He is a gentle giant. One may wonder if he’s part Maine Coon, as he is a big boy. He loves other cats and defers to them in tense situations. Pepper is a lover, not a fighter. We are so proud of the progress Pepper has made inside after only one month. With a little more time and patience, you’ll have a 13 pound lap cat on your hands! Pepper is up to date on all of his vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.

This cat is FIV+ and will live a normal healthy and long life when provided with quality care such as a balanced diet and yearly wellness exams (like any cat). As FIV+ is not transmittable between neutered/spayed cats under normal circumstances, we are happy for FIV+ cats to mingle with FIV- cats in their adoptive homes.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat (however, he does love other cats).

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
