My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucky, a 5-year-old, 45# Border Collie mix (with hints of Sheltie or Husky?) who will be an amazing addition to his new family. He is the kind of dog who makes every day brighter; he’s happy, playful, affectionate, and endlessly charming. He’s got a joyful spirit paired with a calm, steady nature. He’s a pleasure to have around.

Lucky is a ball enthusiast through and through. Toss one and you’ll see his eyes light up! He loves to chase, retrieve, and repeat. When it’s time to play indoors, stuffed toys are his jam. He plays hard, with lots of shaking, tossing, and triumphant catches. When the fun winds down, Lucky is more than happy to cuddle up and relax with his people. His foster family swears he has some of the softest fur imaginable, making those snuggle sessions even better.

With a medium energy level and a solid off switch, Lucky is well-suited for an active, engaged family that enjoys outdoor adventures but also appreciates a dog who can settle and chill. Daily exercise keeps him healthy – he loves to explore! He walks nicely on leash for neighborhood strolls with his foster canine sibling. Out in the world, he’s calm and friendly; great with people, dogs, school-aged kids, and cats.

Lucky is reliably housebroken, learning to enjoy his crate with a little treat bribery, and incredibly smart. What he doesn’t already know, he’ll pick up quickly. A fenced yard is preferred to allow him to play outside, romping in the snow with abandon. A family with herding breed experience would be ideal, because he thrives when he has a job to do and gets the opportunity to use his brain.

His theme song is “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen. He truly will be your once-in-a-lifetime best friend.

Lucky is being fostered in Champlin, MN. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Lucky's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

More about this rescue

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with foster homes in the Twin Cities, Duluth and other locations in the Midwest. We are dedicated to the rehoming of Border Collies, Border Collie mixes and other herding breeds in need of help in Minnesota, the Dakotas and neighboring states. We provide temporary housing in approved foster homes, proper medical care, training, rehabilitation and education of prospective homes.

There are no paid positions in our rescue: we are all volunteers who support the HOABCR mission because we love the breed and want to help dogs in need. We are always looking to welcome like-minded fosters and other volunteers to partner with us in helping dogs!
