My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Truffles!!!

This handsome guy was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia before being picked up and taken to ACCT. He came into ACCT severely emaciated and had a laceration that needed attention on his leg. This sweet sole was set to be euthanized on Christmas Eve due to medical concerns and overcrowding. Thankfully, our amazing village was able to pick him up on Christmas Eve, take him to an emergency vet where he received surgery on his leg to remove necrotic tissue and get him to his foster home to rest and start to recover.

Truffles aka Truffleupagus as his foster mom likes to call him since he looks like a Muppet is approximately two years old and we can only guess some kind of doodle mix. He is all healed up from his leg surgery and has put on about 15 lbs. of weight… his foster mama is feeding him good 😊. He has also been neutered and is up to date on vaccines and on monthly preventatives.

This handsome guy just wants someone to love him. He is all about snuggles, pets and invading your personal space 😂. He does amazing with all the other dogs in his foster home, from very little to bigger than him. He plays with all of them and loves to run around the fully fenced yard at his foster home. He walks very nicely on a leash with just a little pulling here and there. He also does well when crated, he doesn’t love it but tolerates it. 95% of the time you can persuade him to go into his crate with a cookie the other 5% you might have to offer two cookies 🍪. He barks for a little while once crated but does settle down in about 10 minutes. He has been doing great with potty training, but regression can occur when changing environments.

Truffles forever home would be a family that won’t mind having him snuggle with them on the sofa or in bed. A fenced in yard would be amazing but not necessary as he walks so nicely on a leash. He loves playing with other dogs but again, he would probably be fine as an only dog to hog up all the attention. He will need regular grooming about every 6-8 weeks and brushing in between to prevent knots and matting.

If you think Truffleupagus would make the perfect addition to your family, apply today!!!

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
