My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Becca
Age: 9 months
Breed: Dutch Shepherd mix
Size: 41 lbs
Adoption Application: https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8
Contact: transport@hssm.org

Becca is all puppy, all heart, and all energy—at 9 months old, she’s ready to turn your home into her playground! This spirited little firecracker loves to play rough (Shephard chompies), explore, and keep everyone on their toes. She’s eager to please and incredibly smart, so with consistent guidance and training, she’ll shine.

Her puppy enthusiasm comes with a side of rough-and-tumble play, so Becca would do best in a home without younger kids and with someone ready to help channel her high-energy antics. She listens well to corrections and thrives when given structure, exercise, and a friend (human or canine!) to run off some of that endless energy.

Becca is happiest when she’s part of the action—chasing a ball, zooming through the yard, or exploring new adventures with her favorite people. If your family is ready for a lively, loving, and endlessly entertaining pup, Becca is ready to make your house her happy chaos! Becca is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and already spayed.

Becca's $300 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip AND transport fee to a location near you. We currently have transportation to CT, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, GA, and TN. Please email transport@hssm.org for more information on transports!

--> If you are interested in adopting Becca please fill out our online application here: (https://forms.gle/nuKXoMu6gjS5DhFm8 - Dog). A staff member will reach out if your application is approved to discuss the adoption process. No fenced in yard required, and YES - we adopt to families with children! The adoption will not be final until the adoption contract is discussed and signed. Transports are arranged for specific dates, typically within 1-3 weeks of approving your application. Adopters will meet at a designated meeting spot to pick up their new companions. For further information, please first fill out the application referenced above.

**Due to import regulations we are not able to adopt to MA or RI residents at this time.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. HSSM’s facility was built using the nation’s leading Children’s Museums as models, with bright colors and oversized architectural sculptures. We offer: pet adoptions, foster program, return-to-owner efforts, spay/neuter and wellness services, volunteer program, pet transports, youth initiatives, a food pantry and pet retention program, an on-site thrift store, and more! In 2024, HSSM cared for over 5,000 homeless pets in house and touched over 16,000 animals in the community.

Since our incorporation in 1952, HSSM has been committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. HSSM is the only Open Admissions Animal Shelter in South Mississippi, meaning we accept all animals in need, regardless of age, breed, health, or temperament. This commitment ensures that no lost pet is turned away. Oftentimes our open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets in our shelter HSSM has vowed to change this.
