My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jackalope is a super handsome beefcake who is turning into quite the love bug, but he is looking for a very specific kind of adopter/home to help him complete his successful transition to becoming a happy indoor cat. So if you’ve already fallen in love with his looks, please read his entire bio to make sure you are a good fit with the “whole package.” Jackalope had a rough start in life, and he and his foster have worked through some challenges, so we want to make sure we are setting both Jackalope and his peep(s) up for success! Here’s some more info about Jackalope:

Kids: Not recommended at all (at this time). Sudden movements startle Jackalope, he has shown some resource guarding over food (not surprising given his history), and he still hisses a lot when he is uncomfortable or scared.

Peeps with cat experience: Highly recommended. Jackalope’s peeps should all have some cat savvy to read cat body language, know the (very few) times when he does not want to be petted or is scared, and not be offended when he hisses to express his feelings about things.

Other cats: Potentially! Jackalope lived in an outdoor cat colony where he was regularly beat up by other cats, but an initial meeting with one of the cats in the foster home showed lots of potential. An adopter with other cats should expect to do slow, appropriate introductions and have a plan to avoid creating food issues.

Dogs: Potentially! Jackalope has heard the dogs in the foster home and gotten glimpses of them but has not met them (because of them!). He might do fine with a calm, cat-friendly dog after appropriate introductions and a plan to avoid food issues.

Lap(s): Mandatory. Jackalope loves laying in laps, preferably for long periods of time.

Litter box use: Since the introduction of a jumbo-sized litter box, Jackalope’s litter box use has been perfect!

Other info: Jackalope is looking for a calm, quiet home with adopters who are patient and understanding. He would be perfectly happy being an only child, as long as he has a window to look out, a lap to lay in frequently, and someone who will return his love and affection. If you think Jackalope may be the missing piece to complete your puzzle, ask about him today!
