My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Human! Why are you addressing me by the name Ryan?! Amongst my people I am known as King Monkeybutt of Spazalot. You may call me Your Majesty--once I've given you permission to speak. Hear my roar and obey my commands!"

You've never had a cat like Ryan. He may have some delusions of grandeur going on upstairs, but so long as you're willing to entertain those delusions, you and Ryan will get along smashingly! And to be fair, with those long, shapely limbs and svelte physique, with a coat so silky smooth and decorated with such beautiful markings, this fine feline daddy knows he is King of Columbia!

All kidding aside, King Monkeybutt is one of the best cats I (foster father here) have ever had the pleasure to know; and I've known many in my 57 years. He is infectiously sweet and happy--you just can't help but smile at his antics when you're not busy laughing at them. He is gentle and trusting and when receiving antibiotics while in foster care he never once reacted aggressively but rather with resigned patience. Don't pass up this wonderful opportunity!

While his exact age is unknown, close observation has revealed he has quite a bit of kitten left in him. He loves to play, with or without you. His personality is very outgoing, trusting, and happily curious. He is gentle and not one to provoke fights with other cats; he has not yet been observed interacting with dogs but his fearless, happy-go-lucky nature suggests he'd do well. He's a great cuddler and a merciless pounce-on-the-toy companion. He has excellent litterbox skills and to date has scratched on scratching posts and not on furniture. His foster father thinks he'd make an ideal first pet for the right child--six or older.

King Monkeybutt: "Did you tell them about obeying my every commands?!?"
Foster father: "Yes, oh great King, we made sure to mention that." *rolls eyes*
KMB: "More treats!! Fresh catnip!! (*short paws*) I don't think they heard me, did you tell them about my roar??"
FF: "You know Monkey, it's really more of a meow than a roar..."
KMB: "Lies!! Off with your head!! I am a mighty lion and King of the jungle!"
FF: "OK Your Highness. Would you like to play with this squeaky mouse toy?" *throws toy*
KMB: "I am above such things! I..." *runs off to play with squeaky mouse toy*

More about this shelter

Welcome to CMHS! In continuous operation since 1943, the Central Missouri Humane Society promotes the well-being of companion animals – pets that enrich the lives of the people who love them.

The Columbia Humane Society was formed in 1943 to provide shelter and care for Columbia’s abandoned animals. Originating in a little structure on Creasy Springs Road, the organization has grown into today’s Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare agency caring for thousands of animals annually and providing veterinary services for low-income pet owners.
