My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Come meet me and 75+ of my adoptable friends at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue's Super Adoption Event, Furever Yours! Sunday, February 15th, 2026 at Paradise Island in Staten Island from 11am - 3pm!

Meet Hurley! Hurley is the cutest little fluff ball around—9 pounds of pure puppy love! He’s a 3-month-old Shepherd/Poodle mix with a playful spirit, a curious mind, and a heart full of affection.

Hurley lives with a loving foster family that includes a 12-year-old child (one of his biggest fans!), as well as a resident dog and cat. As a young puppy, Hurley is still learning appropriate play and boundaries and can become mouthy or overly excited when he’s overstimulated—something that will continue to improve with consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement. He would do best with a family that understands typical puppy behavior and is committed to helping him grow into a well-mannered adult.

Like any baby, Hurley is teething and will need supervision, patience, and gentle guidance as he learns what’s appropriate to chew and how to interact politely with people and other pets. He loves being close to his humans and happily follows his foster family wherever they go. He’s already doing well on a leash and enjoys exploring the yard on short walks.

House training is a work in progress and will continue to improve with routine and outdoor training as the weather allows. Hurley is a quick learner—he mastered the command sit in just one day! When he’s not playing with toys or practicing new skills, he’s perfectly content curling up for cozy puppy naps.

If you’re looking for a young pup to grow, train, and bond with, Hurley could be a wonderful match. With patience, guidance, and love, this sweet boy has all the potential to become an amazing lifelong companion.

Hurley is currently being fostered in Freehold, NJ. His adoption fee is $550. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
